Fire breaks out at Turkish energy company BOTAS facilities in Istanbul

A fire erupted Tuesday for an undetermined reason at the facilities of the state energy company, the Petroleum Pipeline Corporation (BOTAS), in the Silivri district of Istanbul.

While the area was being evacuated, a large number of firefighting teams were dispatched to the scene.

Statement from governor's office

The Istanbul Governor's Office released a statement regarding the incident, confirming the time and response efforts.

"On Tuesday, December 2, 2025, around 14:30, a fire broke out at the BOTAS facilities in Silivri due to a reason not yet determined," the statement read. "A large number of fire brigade, AFAD, and UMKE teams have been dispatched to the scene."

The statement confirmed that the intervention is ongoing and, according to initial assessments, there are no dead or injured individuals. The exact cause of the fire will be determined after an inspection following the extinguishing efforts.

BOTAS, which carries out gas import, export, storage, transmission, wholesale, LNG trade, and oil transmission activities, is among the largest organizations in Türkiye with an annual turnover of approximately 20 billion ($471.5 million).
