Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held separate phone calls with his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov and Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty, diplomatic sources confirmed on Friday.

The calls come amid heightened tensions following Israel's large-scale military strikes on Iran, which targeted multiple nuclear facilities and killed high-ranking members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as well as several nuclear scientists. In retaliation, Iran launched ballistic missile attacks on Israeli territory, including areas around Tel Aviv.

During the calls, Fidan and his counterparts discussed Israel’s recent attack on Iran and broader regional developments. Sources said the ministers exchanged views on possible repercussions and the importance of maintaining stability in the Middle East.

Israel strikes in northwest Iran

Meanwhile, Israeli drones and military aircraft reportedly struck targets in western and northwestern Iran, including in the city of Tabriz—home to a large Azerbaijani Turk population. Strikes were also reported in Lorestan, Hamedan, and Kermanshah provinces, according to Iranian news agencies Fars and Mehr.

Mahr News Agency reported damage near the Tabriz refinery in East Azerbaijan province, but this was denied by the site's public relations center, which stated that the circulating reports were “completely false.”

Iran downs Israeli UAVs near Turkish border

Iranian defense sources said air defenses intercepted Israeli unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) near the city of Salmas in northwestern Iran, close to the Turkish border. Salmas lies roughly 32 kilometers (about 20 miles) from Türkiye. Israeli officials have yet to comment on the incident.

The escalation has prompted Türkiye to stay on high alert, activating its early-warning systems and maintaining coordination with regional actors to prevent further destabilization.
