Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will accompany President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) Informal Summit in Budapest, Hungary, and will participate in the OTS Informal Foreign Ministers Council Meeting, according to information obtained from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Minister Fidan will be in Hungary today and tomorrow to attend the OTS Informal Summit alongside President Erdogan and participate in the Informal Foreign Ministers Council Meeting scheduled for 21 May.
In his address at the Informal Foreign Ministers Council Meeting, Fidan is expected to emphasize that OTS countries are strengthening their cooperation day by day with a regional ownership approach, at a time when the international system is struggling to ensure peace, stability, and justice.
According to ministry sources, Fidan will underscore that OTS countries should always remember that they are part of the greater Turkic world and act with this awareness. He will also express his belief that showing solidarity with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) against the unjust and inhumane isolation they have faced for decades is a common responsibility of the OTS.
Fidan will further state that they aim to strengthen the organizational capacity and capabilities of the OTS, as well as enhance cooperation in transportation, energy, and sustainable development areas.
Minister Fidan last attended the Foreign Ministers Council Meeting on November 6, 2024, ahead of the OTS Bishkek Summit held on the same date.
At the OTS Informal Summit held in Shusha, Azerbaijan on July 5-6, 2024, and the 11th OTS Summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan on November 6, 2024, a determination to deepen solidarity and cooperation in the Turkic world was expressed.
The upcoming Budapest Summit on May 21 is expected to comprehensively address the steps being taken in line with the Bishkek Summit decisions and send a strong message of unity to the outside world.
At the conclusion of the summit, a Joint Declaration aimed at increasing cooperation areas between OTS countries and enhancing the organization's institutional integration is expected to be adopted, along with the signing of various documents.
The 12th OTS Summit will be held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, in the coming months.
