Forensic tests have revealed cocaine and THC in samples taken from eight Turkish celebrities during a drug investigation conducted by Istanbul prosecutors, according to results released by authorities.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Smuggling, Narcotics and Economic Crimes Investigation Bureau ordered the testing as part of a probe into suspected drug use. On Oct. 8, gendarmerie teams brought 19 well-known figures to headquarters for questioning and sample collection.
Laboratory analysis by the Forensic Medicine Institute found cocaine in hair samples from five individuals: Dilan Polat, Derin Talu, Deren Talu, Birsen Berrak Tuzunatac and Birce Akalay.
Blood samples from three others—Kubilay Aka, Metin Akdulger and Kaan Yildirim—tested positive for THC-COOH, a metabolite indicating marijuana use.
Four additional people—Engin Polat, İrem Derici, Feyza Altun and Ziynet Sali Safter—had prescription medication substances in their blood and hair samples. These medications require a special green prescription in Türkiye for legal use.
Tests on seven others came back negative. No substances were detected in samples from Duygu Ozaslan Mutaf, Demet Evgar Babatas, Mert Yazicioglu, Zeynep Merc Aral, Ceren Moray Orcan, Hadise Acikgoz and Ozge Ozpirincci Yamanturk.
The Forensic Medicine Institute has submitted its reports to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, which is continuing its investigation into drug use allegations.
None of the 19 individuals were detained during the October operation. After providing statements at the Provincial Gendarmerie Command, they were escorted to the Forensic Medicine Institute in Yenibosna for sample collection, then taken to Seyrantepe Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital for medical examinations before being released.
Authorities have not announced whether charges will be filed based on the test results.
