Firefighters are battling a forest fire from the air and ground that broke out in Antalya's Aksu and Kepez districts Monday evening and spread across a wide area.
The fire started in a wooded area near Karaoz neighborhood in Aksu district and spread into Kepez district due to strong winds.
Aerial firefighting efforts began with the first light of morning. Crews are using five planes and more than 10 helicopters, along with 110 fire trucks and more than 600 personnel. Efforts to bring the fire under control continue.
The fire forced the evacuation of 40 homes in Yesilkaraman neighborhood, 10 in Karaoz neighborhood, and 29 homes and 18 barns in Yumuk neighborhood, all in Aksu district, as well as 175 homes in Camlica neighborhood in Kepez district. Efforts to evacuate livestock in the region continue.
Crews from the Konya, Isparta and Burdur Provincial Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), municipal teams from Konya, Karaman and Isparta, and the Isparta Regional Directorate of Forestry also joined the firefighting effort.
Mobile base station vehicles were deployed to the region after the fire caused disruptions to mobile communication networks.
