Firefighters are battling a forest fire from the air and ground after it broke out in the Mentese district of Mugla province and spread to the Ula district.
The fire started in a wooded area in Yaras neighborhood for reasons that have not yet been determined. Strong winds in the area caused the fire to grow rapidly.
Aircraft, ground vehicles, and firefighting crews from the Mugla Regional Directorate of Forestry were dispatched to the area following the report.
Flames spread to Armutcuk neighborhood in Mugla's Ula district due to the wind. Traffic on the Mugla-Denizli highway is being controlled.
Crews are fighting the fire with seven planes, 13 helicopters, 32 fire trucks, seven bulldozers, 62 water tankers, 12 heavy equipment vehicles, and 232 personnel.
Eleven vehicles and ambulances are also supporting evacuation efforts.
Governor Idris Akbiyik told Anadolu Agency (AA) that crews were working intensively to bring the fire under control.
Noting that efforts continue from the air and ground, Akbiyik said, "A total of three homes have been evacuated—two in Mentese and one in Ula. Three cattle and 100 sheep and goats have been evacuated. Winds remain strong in the area."
