Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the former chairman of the Republican People's Party (CHP), has reportedly decided to leave active politics. According to Türkiye Daily, sources close to the veteran politician state that he has no intention of becoming a general chairman again or leading another political party.
Kilicdaroglu has started using the law firm of his attorney, Celal Celik, as his personal office. Moving away from daily political squabbles, he plans to focus on global developments and continue writing articles for various platforms.
This decision follows his recent call to "clean the party" regarding allegations of corruption and bribery.
Kilicdaroglu, who lost to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the 2023 presidential elections, also lost the chairmanship in the party congress held after the elections. The party's new chairman, Ozgur Ozel, had announced that former Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu would be the presidential candidate in the next election.
Imamoglu was arrested in March during a corruption operation. Following Imamoglu's arrest, allegations of fraud arose regarding the CHP congress where Ozgur Ozel became chairman, and it was claimed that Kemal Kilicdaroglu could return to lead the CHP via a court order. However, no such ruling emerged from the court.
