Georgia’s President Mikheil Kavelashvili will pay an official visit to Türkiye on August 12-13 at the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Presidential Communications Director Burhanettin Duran announced Saturday.

In a post on social media, Duran said the visit will focus on steps to further enhance cooperation with Türkiye’s strategic partner Georgia, along with discussions on current regional and global developments.

Strategic depth in Türkiye-Georgia relations

The visit is expected to inject new momentum into the longstanding friendship and strategic partnership between Türkiye and Georgia. Türkiye was among the first countries to recognize Georgia’s independence, and since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992, the two neighbors have developed strong political, economic, and cultural cooperation.

Visa-free travel, joint infrastructure projects such as the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, TANAP, and BTC pipeline, and a growing trade volume — which reached $3.4 billion in 2024 — illustrate the depth of the partnership. Leaders aim to raise bilateral trade to $5 billion.

Relations between Türkiye and Georgia are also vital for regional peace and stability in the South Caucasus, the effective operation of energy and transport corridors, and strengthening strategic links between Europe and Central Asia. Georgia remains a key gateway for Türkiye to Central Asia, while Türkiye continues to back Georgia’s integration with Euro-Atlantic institutions.
