Turkish authorities on Wednesday arrested a foreign national accused of impersonating a police officer and stealing cash in Istanbul.

Police said the incident took place in the Fatih district, where a foreign national identified as R.B. filed a complaint after a man posing as an officer took €2,000 ($2,300) from him through sleight of hand.

Security camera footage led investigators to identify the suspect as Amer H., a 36-year-old Iranian national. Authorities said he had multiple prior investigation records for “qualified fraud, pickpocketing, unlawful assumption of public office,” and “theft.”

He was detained by Fatih District Police Department’s Public Security Bureau teams on Zeytinburnu’s 58 Boulevard Street. After processing at the police station, Amer H. was referred to court, where he was formally arrested.
