Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) has approved a 30% increase in fares across the city’s public transportation network, including buses, metro, metrobus, ferries, minibuses, taxis, and school shuttle services.
The decision was passed by majority vote at the municipal council on Friday and will take effect on September 15.
The price of a standard electronic full ticket will rise from ₺27 ($0.65) to ₺35, while the monthly "Blue Card" commuter pass will increase from ₺2,120 ($51.26) to ₺2,748.
On ferry routes, the Uskudar–Eminonu crossing will increase from ₺34.20 to ₺44.33, while the Kadikoy–Eminonu and Kadikoy–Besiktas lines will rise from ₺38.11 to ₺49.40. Longer trips, such as the Bostanci–Adalar (Princes’ Islands) service, will climb from ₺100.45 to ₺130.22.
Taxi fares will also rise under the new schedule. The base fare will increase from ₺42 to ₺54.50, while the per-kilometer charge will move from ₺28 to ₺36.30. The hourly waiting tariff will reach ₺453.71, up from ₺350. The minimum short-distance fare will climb from ₺135 to ₺175.
For minibuses, the short-distance fare, which applies to trips of up to 4 kilometers, will increase from ₺25 to ₺32.50. Other distance-based fares will rise proportionally, with student fares moving from ₺16 to ₺21.
School transport fees will also be adjusted. For distances up to 1 kilometer, monthly shuttle fees will increase from ₺2,605 to ₺3,376. Personnel shuttle services will rise from ₺1,355 to ₺1,757.
The new hikes follow a 35% increase introduced on January 15, when the city’s Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME) last revised fares for public transport, taxis, and school services.
