Yandex Türkiye has introduced a feature to its Yandex Maps and Yandex Navigation apps that allows users in Istanbul to view public transport fares in real time.
The update, available on both iOS and Android, is designed to make route planning more predictable for commuters.
When planning a trip using metro lines, buses, or other standard public transport options, users can now see the total journey cost as well as the fare for each leg of the trip.
The displayed fares are based on official data from Istanbul’s public transport authorities and operators, including Istanbul Electric Tram and Tunnel Company (IETT), the city’s contactless payment system Istanbulkart, the Marmaray commuter rail, and the Sehir Hatlari ferry services.
Alongside the fare display update, Yandex Türkiye has launched two limited-time campaigns to make public transport more affordable in the city.
Through a partnership with Istanbul Sea Buses (IDO), users who set Yandex as their default search engine will receive a credit of ₺100 ($2.46) for use on ferry tickets. This credit will be automatically loaded into their digital Istanbulkart Mobile accounts.
Istanbulkart can be used for payments at over 100,000 points across the city, including supermarkets, clothing stores, restaurants, cafes, and coffee chains, as well as in taxi services and food delivery apps.
Founded in 2010, Yandex is a Russia-based technology company specializing in internet-related products, most notably Yandex Search and Yandex Maps.
As of July 2025, its search engine held a 44.21% market share in Türkiye, according to web analytics service StatCounter, boosted by the launch of its AI-powered search engine Yazeka, developed specifically for Turkish users.
In February, Yandex CEO Alexander Popovskiy announced plans to invest $400 million over the next three years to localize services in Türkiye in a bid to further expand its market share.
