Istanbul closes roads for Victory Day celebrations on Aug. 30

Several roads in Istanbul were closed to traffic on Saturday as Türkiye marked the 103rd anniversary of Victory Day, according to the Istanbul Governor’s Office.

Authorities said Adnan Menderes Boulevard (Vatan Street) was shut in both directions starting at 5:45 a.m. and will remain closed until the end of the official program.

Closed roads (5:45 a.m.–end of program)

  • Adnan Menderes Boulevard (Vatan Street), both directions
  • All entrances to Adnan Menderes Boulevard from D-100 highway (north and south)
  • All entrances from 10. Yil Street, Edirnekapi, Oguzhan Street, Sofular Street, Halicilar Street, Akdeniz Street, and Aksemsettin Street
  • Entrances from Ordu Street and Ataturk Boulevard (Aksaray)
  • Entrances from Kececi Meydan Street and southern Hal Yolu
  • All streets and avenues leading to Adnan Menderes Boulevard
  • Entrances from Tatlipinar Street, Kaleboyu Street, and Sulukule Street (Kaleici)

Alternative routes

Drivers were advised to use Turgut Ozal Millet Street, Fevzipasa Street, Ataturk Boulevard, the D-100 highway and the O-3 Hal Yolu road.

Victory Day on Aug. 30 is a national holiday in Türkiye, commemorating the decisive battle in 1922 that secured Turkish independence.
