The Istanbul Governor’s Office announced a temporary ban on public gatherings in several districts, including Besiktas, Beyoglu, Eyupsultan, Kagithane, Sariyer, and Sisli, citing public order regulations.

The ban covers all rallies, press statements, open-air meetings, demonstrations, tent setups, booths, sit-ins, signature campaigns, commemorations, handout distribution, and the hanging of banners or posters.

The restrictions will be in effect from 8 p.m. on Sept. 7, 2025, until 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 10, 2025, according to the governorate’s statement.

The announcement follows the controversial appointment of a trustee to the Istanbul branch of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) after a court ruling, which has sparked political tensions and debates within the party. Party leaders and activists have expressed concerns that the decision could affect upcoming congress proceedings and public demonstrations.

Barricades erected around CHP building

Following the announcement, security forces set up barricades to prevent civilians from approaching the CHP provincial building. The move comes after the controversial appointment of a trustee to the Istanbul branch of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) after a court ruling, which has sparked political tensions and debates within the party.

CHP lawmaker Ali Mahir Basarir called on citizens to join demonstrations in response to the trustee appointment, urging public participation in upcoming actions.

The governor’s office said the measure is implemented in accordance with Türkiye’s provincial administration law and the law regulating meetings and demonstrations, emphasizing the need to maintain public order.
