Police shot and wounded a suspect who ignored stop orders and rammed five police vehicles during a chase along the Bakirkoy coastal road early Tuesday.
Police teams conducting checks on the Bakirkoy coastal road ordered a suspicious vehicle to stop. The driver ignored the order, displayed a knife to the police, and began to flee.
A chase ensued between police teams and the suspect. During the pursuit along the coastal road, the suspect rammed police vehicles with his car, causing damage.
Following the chase, police closed Kennedy Avenue to traffic as a precaution and set a trap on the suspect's escape route.
Police fired warning shots at the suspect, who was still attempting to flee with his vehicle. Police then opened fire directly at the suspect, who continued his escape attempt despite the warning shots.
The suspect was wounded as a result of being shot. He was transported to hospital by medical teams called to the scene. The road closed due to the chase was reopened to traffic after damaged vehicles were removed.
