The Istanbul Governor’s Office has decided that several metro and Marmaray services in Istanbul will be temporarily suspended on Saturday ahead of the 2025 Super Cup Final between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, which will be held at Ataturk Olympic Stadium.

The decision was made in coordination with public transport agencies to address safety concerns and anticipated crowd management issues, according to official statements.

Key rail lines closed, 450 extra bus trips added in Istanbul

Marmaray, the commuter rail line connecting Istanbul's European and Asian sides, announced that the Zeytinburnu and Kazlicesme stations would be closed to passenger entry and exit between 2 and 6 p.m. local time (GMT+3). Additionally, on the surface-level Sirkeci–Kazlicesme route, both the Kazlicesme and Yedikule stations will be shut to boarding and disembarking during the same period.

These measures aim to alleviate congestion near the stadium and maintain crowd control before kickoff.

Metro Istanbul also confirmed that the M9 Atakoy–Olimpiyat metro line will remain out of service between 3 p.m. and midnight on Saturday, including the closure of key stations such as Atakoy and Ziya Gokalp.

To compensate, Istanbul's public bus operator IETT will run shuttle services between these stops. A total of 250 additional bus trips have been scheduled on top of the existing 304 daily runs in the vicinity of the stadium. On the city's dedicated bus rapid transit line, known as the Metrobus, another 200 extra trips will be added to accommodate expected demand.

Super Cup moved up as Istanbul braces for weekend storm

Meanwhile, the Istanbul Governor’s Office urged residents to remain cautious and take preventive measures against potential hazards such as falling trees or poles, roof damage, and chimney gas leaks, as heavy rain and strong winds are expected in the city on Saturday.

Temperatures are also forecast to rise noticeably above seasonal norms, ranging between 8°C and 15°C (46°F to 59°F), according to the Meteorological Service.

The match, originally scheduled for 8 p.m., was brought forward to 6:45 p.m. local time by the Turkish Football Federation on Friday.
