Italy’s financial police, la Guardia di Finanza, visited Türkiye on Wednesday to examine the country’s unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) and assess their operational capabilities.
Rafnar boats in Türkiye were demonstrated for the visiting delegation.
The vessels are fully autonomous and remotely controlled through advanced software developed in cooperation with Turkish firms Havelsan and VN Maritime.
During the visit, the vehicles were operated remotely to showcase their performance.
Italian officials said the Guardia di Finanza requires continuous maritime surveillance to maintain an uninterrupted presence in ports, coastal areas and regions with heavy maritime traffic.
Unmanned solutions were highlighted as suitable for long-duration and high-risk missions, reducing safety risks to personnel.
USVs can be deployed for patrol, surveillance and inspection missions at lower operating costs, improving efficiency.
They can also be used to monitor marine pollution, illegal dumping and environmental violations.
Officials noted that such systems are designed to integrate with existing monitoring and communication platforms, complementing rather than replacing human operators.
Fully autonomous and remotely controlled Rafnar boats were presented as tools that could help the Guardia di Finanza monitor wider areas with fewer personnel, enhance safety, reduce medium-term operational costs and support maritime security and environmental protection objectives.
