French luxury fashion brand Louis Vuitton’s Türkiye operations have suffered a major data breach affecting nearly 143,000 individuals, according to a public notice released Friday by the Turkish Personal Data Protection Authority (KVKK).
The breach, confirmed by Louis Vuitton's Turkish subsidiary, involved unauthorized access to a customer database and the exposure of identity and contact information.
According to the company's statement to KVKK, the incident happened on June 7 and was only identified on July 2. The breach reportedly stemmed from the compromise of a service account managed by a third-party provider.
Thie account allowed unauthorized individuals to access a database containing personal information belonging to customers and potential customers based in Türkiye.
According to the company, the categories of data affected include names and contact details. While the investigation remains ongoing, KVKK confirmed that 142,995 people residing in Türkiye were impacted.
The incident followed a series of cybersecurity breaches reported in Asia, including South Korea, where authorities disclosed on July 4, that a luxury brand experienced unauthorized access and a telecom operator was fined over a separate incident, according to Yonhap News Agency.
