A magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck Türkiye's eastern Erzincan province on Friday afternoon, with authorities confirming no casualties or property damage as field screening operations continue.
The earthquake occurred at 2:16 p.m. local time with its epicenter in the Kemah district near Hakbilir village, according to the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD). The tremor struck at a shallow depth of approximately 4.52 kilometers.
The earthquake was also felt in the neighboring provinces of Tunceli, Gumushane, Elazig and Bayburt, causing brief panic among residents.
Erzincan Governor Hamza Aydogdu announced via social media that no loss of life or property occurred.
"Thankfully, there is no loss of life or property in the 4.9 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Erzincan Kemah," Aydogdu said.
"May Allah protect our nation and our fellow citizens of Erzincan from all disasters and calamities. Get well soon, Erzincan," he added.
AFAD confirmed that no adverse conditions have been reported following the earthquake and that field screening operations are ongoing.
"Following the 4.9 magnitude earthquake that occurred at 2:16 p.m. in Kemah district of our Erzincan province and was also felt in our Tunceli, Gumushane, Elazig and Bayburt provinces, there is currently no adverse situation," AFAD stated.
"Field screening operations continue. We extend our get-well wishes to our affected citizens," AFAD added.
The Erzincan Governor's Office said relevant units began field screenings immediately after the earthquake. No negative reports have been received from citizens to related institutions, the statement added.
