Republican People's Party (CHP), Türkiye’s main opposition party, is watching a court ruling scheduled for September 15 regarding the disputed party congress. Party Assembly (PM) member Dr. Ali Haydar Firat said he visited former CHP chairman Kemal Kilicdaroglu to discuss possible next steps.
Speaking on Turkish media outlet TV100, Firat said he and Kilicdaroglu discussed potential outcomes of the upcoming court decision. Firat described Kilicdaroglu as “good-willed” in contributing to resolving the party’s internal issues.
Firat quoted Kilicdaroglu as saying he was deeply saddened by the process, stating, “I wish this process had not reached this point.” He added that while Kilicdaroglu acknowledged criticism directed at him, it no longer affects him personally.
Firat emphasized the importance of former and current party leaders working together to chart a clear path for CHP’s future. “Kilicdaroglu’s good intentions regarding his role in navigating this process are evident,” Firat said, highlighting the need for unity and strategic planning within the party.
