Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahceli delivered a blistering condemnation of the United States following the Jan. 3 operation in Venezuela, where President Nicolas Maduro and his wife were detained in Caracas and transported to New York.
Speaking at his party's weekly group meeting, Bahceli described the event as a historic act of "banditry" and "kidnapping."
"International law has been at the bottom of the trash can for many years," Bahceli began. "Imperialism knows neither right nor law. It is not new for the law of the strong to prevail instead of the power of law... Human rights are in an unknown place, left to die."
Bahceli used a cinematic analogy to describe the raid on the Venezuelan capital. "Banditry unseen in history, a kidnapping has taken place," he said.
"The 'Pirates of the Caribbean' movie has taken place before the eyes of the whole world. I condemn this illegitimate attack against Maduro. This shame, this moral destruction, this cruelty is not a right for anyone."
MHP leader Bahceli said, “For the first time, a head of state has been dragged from his bed at midnight in his country's capital, along with his wife. This is unacceptable; it is not something to be tolerated.”
Likening the U.S. operation to the invasion of Rome and the July 15 coup attempt, Bahceli added, “Just as barbarian tribes invaded Rome in history, the very same has occurred in Caracas. The similarity of this event to the July 15 betrayal experienced in our country is also striking. "
"The U.S. attempt to unjustly remove Maduro from power through military intervention in Venezuela is a known conspiracy. The U.S., which unleashed the Hashashin organization upon us on July 15, has personally taken the field in Venezuela. The only difference is that one remained awake and resisted, while the other slept and surrendered.”
Bahceli claimed that US President Donald Trump has "lost his common sense and moral faculties," listing Panama, Cuba, Colombia, and Greenland as potential new targets.
"The main goal of the US is the control of energy flow and intervention in the precious metal trade," he argued. "Basically, the whole world is under close threat marking."
Defining Latin America as the region Trump sees as his "backyard," Bahceli called for immediate action.
"The American Congress must step in urgently," he urged.
"Decisions must be taken quickly to end the Trump administration's political and military actions that violate the Constitution and law. Maduro must be returned to his country."
Bahceli concluded with a warning to the international community: "The free world must stand up against the U.S. imposition. Otherwise, today's silence will cause terrible events in the future."
