A business in Akyaka, a resort town in Türkiye's Mugla province, drew criticism after putting up a sign that set the restroom fee for non-customers at ₺500, nearly $11.
The sign on the door said that the WC, a commonly used term in Türkiye for restroom or toilet, was off limits to anyone who was not a customer. It also stated that restroom use would cost ₺500 for non-customers.
The notice read: "Restroom use by non-customers is strictly prohibited. Usage fee: 500 TL."
The fee came to public attention after young people visiting the establishment recorded the sign and shared the video on social media, according to Türkiye newspaper.
In the footage, one of the young visitors reacted with surprise and described the fee as "the biggest nonsense I have ever seen in my life."
The practice drew criticism after the video spread online.
