A Palestinian flag was seen hanging from an apartment building across from the hotel where U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to stay during the 36th NATO Heads of State and Government Summit in Ankara.
Trump is due to arrive in Türkiye's capital as part of the NATO summit, with security measures tightened around the JW Marriott Hotel, where he will stay during the meetings.
The flag was placed on the front of an apartment building opposite the hotel as police teams took broad security precautions in the area.
Heavy security measures have been deployed around the JW Marriott Hotel ahead of Trump's arrival.
Police teams have set up barriers around the hotel and are controlling vehicle and pedestrian access to the area. Officers are checking drivers' documents and searching vehicles and individuals.
NATO personnel have begun arriving at the hotel ahead of the summit opening, passing through X-ray screening machines installed at the entrance.
Special operations units are also on standby around the hotel. Local reports said security measures will remain in place throughout the summit.
Trump is scheduled to participate in an arrival ceremony and greeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on July 7 at 2:15 p.m. local time (11:15 a.m. GMT).
He will then review the honor guard during a formal state arrival ceremony at 3:00 p.m. (12:00 p.m. GMT).
Ankara is hosting the 36th NATO Heads of State and Government Summit, marking the first time the capital has held the event.
