Passengers aboard a Pegasus Airlines flight from Ankara to Izmir were evacuated on Friday after a portable power bank emitted smoke inside the aircraft cabin during taxiing, according to reports.
The aircraft had boarded passengers at Ankara's Esenboga Airport and was preparing to operate its scheduled flight to Izmir when smoke was reported coming from a portable charger belonging to a passenger.
The pilot informed air traffic control at Esenboga Airport and stopped the aircraft after the incident was detected.
Passengers were subsequently evacuated from the aircraft as a precaution.
No injuries were reported during the evacuation or as a result of the incident.
Authorities have not reported any additional damage to the aircraft.
The incident comes after Türkiye's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) previously announced restrictions on charging portable power banks aboard aircraft due to flight safety concerns.
The aviation authority had warned that portable charging devices could pose safety risks during flights and introduced measures aimed at reducing potential hazards inside aircraft cabins.
Authorities have not reported any further disruptions related to Friday's incident.
