President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Türkiye is pursuing a policy centered on peace, dialogue and negotiation at a time of escalating global tensions, stressing that the country’s sole aim is to increase the number of friends rather than turn disagreements into hostility.

Speaking after the Cabinet Meeting at the Presidential Complex on Feb. 23, Erdogan said Ankara is making efforts to ensure crises do not evolve into hot conflicts.

Policy centered on peace and dialogue

“At a time when tensions are escalating at the global level, especially as Türkiye, we are making efforts to resolve crises before they turn into hot conflicts with our policy that puts peace, dialogue and negotiation at the center,” Erdogan said.

He stated that Türkiye defends justice and speaks out courageously wherever necessary.

“Without forgetting that we are members of a nation great with its history, great with its conscience and, when necessary, great with the epics it has written on battlefields, we defend what is right and justice wherever it may be in the world, and we voice the truth bravely without hesitation,” he said.

Erdogan added that Türkiye’s upright, courageous, sincere and principled stance in the face of developments is being followed with appreciation.

‘Not striving to produce hostility’

“In today’s world system, where severe tremors are taking place, Türkiye’s only objective is to increase the number of its friends and gain new ones,” Erdogan said.

“We are not striving to produce hostility out of disagreements. We are not seeking to enlarge disputes or deepen problems,” he added.

Erdogan said Türkiye respects the sovereign rights of countries and expects the same respect in return.

“While we respect the sovereign rights of countries, we expect everyone to show respect for our rights and laws,” he said.

‘A Türkiye wind is blowing’

Erdogan said Türkiye’s stance and decisions are closely watched internationally.

“As I have said before, a Türkiye wind is currently blowing in the world. What Türkiye thinks, what it does, where it stands in the face of new developments and what steps it will take are being wondered,” he said.
