Several roads in Istanbul were closed to traffic on Sunday due to rehearsals for the upcoming Republic Day celebrations marking the 102nd anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Türkiye.
The closures began at 6:00 a.m. local time (GMT+3) as police implemented security measures along the routes designated for the parade rehearsal, according to the Istanbul Governor’s Office.
Adnan Menderes Boulevard—known locally as Vatan Avenue—was closed in both directions. The D-100 highway’s northbound and southbound entrances leading to the boulevard were also blocked.
Access from several connecting roads, including Edirnekapi, 10. Yil, Oguzhan, Sofular, Halicilar, Akdeniz, Aksemseddin, and Ordu streets, was restricted.
In addition, entry from Ataturk Boulevard, Kececi Meydan Street, and the southern lane of Hal Yolu toward Adnan Menderes Boulevard was halted.
The closures affected a wide section of the Fatih district, which connects central Istanbul neighborhoods.
The boulevard is one of the city’s main east–west arteries linking the old city to major highways such as D-100, a key route stretching from Edirne in northwestern Türkiye to the eastern provinces.
The Governor’s Office advised drivers to use alternative roads, including Turgut Ozal Millet Avenue, Fevzipasa Avenue, Ataturk Boulevard, the D-100 highway, and the O-3 Hal Yolu road until the rehearsals conclude.
Traffic restrictions are expected to remain in place only during the rehearsal period, with normal traffic flow resuming afterward.
