Turkish defense firm Roketsan unveiled its new high-speed, multi-purpose loitering munition, EREN, for the first time internationally at the World Defense Show 2026 in Saudi Arabia.

Roketsan brought EREN from the concept stage to battlefield-ready status in less than a year, with the munition recently completing firing tests from the Bayraktar Akinci unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV).

Mass production is expected to begin this year, with the munition aimed at enhancing the striking power of the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) as well as friendly and allied countries.

"We aimed to develop a cost-effective munition capable of engaging air-to-ground, ground-to-ground, and ground-to-air targets," Roketsan CEO Murat Ikinci said.

"EREN is a very valuable munition for us," he noted.

EREN can be launched from multiple platforms including unmanned aerial vehicles, helicopters, ground vehicles, ground-based systems and naval platforms.

The loitering munition is designed to engage low-speed aerial targets, armored and unarmored ground targets, and can be used in anti-personnel roles.

Key capabilities include advanced guidance systems, extended loiter time and an operational range exceeding 100 kilometers.

AI algorithms and turbojet engine

Ikinci highlighted the advanced technologies integrated into EREN.

"This munition, with its artificial intelligence algorithms, flight control sensors and turbojet engine, opens a new segment for us," Ikinci stated.

"EREN will significantly enhance the striking power of our UAVs and enable highly effective engagements from ground-based platforms, including autonomous systems, armored vehicles and shelters," he added.

Integration efforts are ongoing for unmanned ground vehicles, armored platforms, UAVs and close air defense systems, with potential future integration on aircraft as well.
