Türkiye’s Ministry of National Defense said Thursday that an unmanned aerial vehicle found washed ashore in Unye district of Ordu province is assessed to belong to Russia, adding that no explosives were found on the drone.
In a statement regarding the UAV found on the Ordu coast, the ministry said, “Following the discovery of a UAV on the beach in Unye/Ordu on Feb. 10, 2026, one SAS team was dispatched to the area on Feb. 11.
“The UAV, which did not contain explosives and is assessed to belong to Russia, was handed over to the Unye Police Department for examination.”
The ministry did not provide further details.
Debris from what authorities identified as an unmanned aerial vehicle washed ashore on Türkiye’s Black Sea coast in Ordu province on Tuesday, Feb. 10. Initial analysis suggested the object is a Russian-made Geran-2 drone based on Iran’s Shahed-136 kamikaze UAV design.
The incident occurred along the State Coastal Road in the Fevzi Cakmak neighborhood of Unye district. Citizens spotted the fragmented object on the shore and reported it to the 112 Emergency Call Center.
Police units dispatched to the scene conducted an examination and confirmed the debris belonged to an unmanned aerial vehicle.
The finding followed a similar discovery on Feb. 5, when fishermen found an object believed to be a UAV in the sea off Karaburun in Istanbul’s Arnavutkoy district.
According to initial analysis, the object discovered in Ordu is a Russian-made Geran-2 that was stripped of its warhead. The Geran-2 is based on Iran’s Shahed-136 model, a kamikaze drone that Russia has used extensively in attacks on Ukrainian civilian and military infrastructure.
