Security forces catch over 400 irregular migrants in operations

Turkish security forces caught over 400 irregular migrants across multiple provinces in separate operations.

Coast Guard teams in Mugla's Bodrum district intercepted 25 irregular migrants, including 5 children, aboard a rubber boat. The migrants were transferred to the Provincial Migration Management Directorate.

Coast Guard operations in Aegean provinces

In Izmir's Dikili district, Coast Guard forces caught 18 irregular migrants in a rubber boat. A separate operation in the Seferihisar district resulted in 12 irregular migrants being caught, with 1 suspected human trafficker arrested.

Coast Guard teams rescued 35 irregular migrants, including 12 children, from a rubber boat off the Karaburun district.

Greek elements had pushed the boat into Turkish territorial waters. One suspected human trafficker was arrested.

In Fethiye, Coast Guard Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime teams caught 10 irregular migrants, including 1 child, on land in the Kayakoy area.

Border province operations

Kirklareli and Edirne security forces caught 39 irregular migrants. Edirne teams detained 21 migrants during city inspections. Kirklareli Gendarmerie teams caught 18 migrants. One suspected human trafficker was arrested.

Kirklareli authorities reported catching 146 irregular migrants between May 23 and 29. Ten suspected human traffickers were arrested.

One suspect was detained by court order; others were released under judicial control. Seven vehicles were confiscated.

Edirne and Tekirdag's operations resulted in 41 irregular migrants being caught. Edirne security forces detained 20 migrants. Tekirdag police stopped a minibus on Malkara Road and found 21 migrants. The driver was arrested on human trafficking charges.

Additional operations in Edirne, Kirklareli and Tekirdag caught 29 irregular migrants. Edirne teams detained 17 migrants, Kirklareli teams caught seven, and Tekirdag teams found five migrants in a commercial vehicle.

Vehicle-based operations

Bodrum police caught five Afghan nationals in a taxi from Konya province during holiday security measures at the Torba checkpoint. Legal proceedings were initiated against the driver.

Kastamonu authorities found 10 irregular migrants hidden in a passenger bus luggage compartment in the Tosya district. The bus driver was wanted for "bringing a foreigner into the country or enabling them to stay in the country."

The driver was arrested on human trafficking charges.

Aydin Gendarmerie teams found 35 irregular migrants in a truck parked near Selatin Tunnel on the Aydin-Izmir Highway. Driver B.O. fled but was later arrested in Izmir after reporting his vehicle stolen. B.O. was arrested on human trafficking charges.

Eastern border operations

Agri Governor Mustafa Koc announced that border units prevented 3,572 irregular migrants from entering the country through the Iranian border during May.

"Our border units prevented 3,572 irregular migrants from entering our country as a result of their work. Additionally, there are 5 mobile migration points in our province, which will operate continuously in our city center and at our entrances and exits during the holiday period," Koc said.

Agri authorities conducted 15 human trafficking operations, resulting in 6 arrests and 7 individuals released under judicial control. Thirteen vehicles were confiscated.

Erzurum security forces caught 53 irregular migrants who entered the country illegally. The group included 46 Afghan, three Syrian, two Bangladeshi, one Iranian, and one Pakistani national.

Four suspected human traffickers were arrested.

All irregular migrants were transferred to Provincial Migration Management Directorates or removal centers following processing.
