Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez left Ankara after his plane made an emergency landing in the Turkish capital because of a technical problem while traveling from Madrid to Yerevan for a European Political Community meeting.
Sanchez and his delegation were en route to Armenia’s capital to attend the 8th European Political Community Summit when the aircraft encountered a technical issue while in Turkish airspace.
The plane was diverted to Ankara for safety reasons and landed without further incident.
Pilots decided to make an emergency landing after a technical problem occurred on the aircraft. The plane landed safely in Ankara, and no negative situation was reported after the landing.
The process was handled in line with standard procedures for travel safety.
Following the emergency landing, Sanchez and the delegation accompanying him stayed overnight at a hotel in Ankara.
The unexpected stop forced a change in Sanchez’s travel schedule as he continued his trip to attend the diplomatic program in Yerevan.
Sanchez left the hotel where he stayed in Ankara on Thursday morning.
The convoy carrying Sanchez and his delegation departed for Esenboga Airport as the Spanish prime minister continued his journey toward Yerevan for the European Political Community meeting.
