Turkish defense manufacturer STM's newly developed KarguFPV kamikaze drone successfully hit its target in its first test firing, demonstrating advanced autonomous capabilities that set it apart from competitors.

New drone leverages STM's proven UAV expertise

STM has established itself in the global defense arena with tactical mini-unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems like KARGU, BOYGA, and TOGAN. The company has now introduced KarguFPV, a new addition to its drone family after extensive development work.

According to a statement from STM, the drone underwent design, system, munition and fuse integration before being deployed for field testing. In its inaugural test firing, the KarguFPV scored a direct hit on the target group.

Advanced autonomous capabilities distinguish new system

STM General Manager Ozgur Guleryuz highlighted the drone's unique capabilities compared to similar systems on the market.

"We're incorporating STM's autonomy and artificial intelligence-supported image processing and precision strike capabilities into FPV," Guleryuz said. "Unlike its counterparts, our product can mark targets and achieve direct hits through image processing-supported autonomous terminal dive capability."

Guleryuz added that STM plans to incorporate high autonomy and computer vision capabilities into future members of the FPV drone family, promising innovative FPV products in the pipeline.

Technical specifications demonstrate versatility

The KarguFPV kamikaze drone provides a deterrent force against dynamic threats in asymmetric warfare environments. It can neutralize enemy elements with anti-personnel munitions through an operator-controlled real-time vision system.

Key technical specifications include:

  • High maneuverability
  • Day and night operation capability
  • Low radar cross-section for target evasion
  • Precision strike capability against stationary or moving targets
  • Advanced military-grade fuse and integrated day/night camera
  • Ability to operate without interference from electronic warfare systems

The platform features a proximity fuse sensor that allows automatic detonation at adjustable distances. Its image processing-supported autonomous terminal dive capability enables target marking for precise hits.

In terms of operational parameters, the KarguFPV has a mission range of 10 kilometers. In kamikaze mode, it can remain airborne for over 20 minutes, while in observation mode without munitions and fuse, it can stay aloft for 44 minutes. The drone operates at a mission altitude of 500 meters but can reach a maximum altitude of 5,500 meters. It can achieve a maximum speed of 160 kilometers per hour, with a platform takeoff weight of 3,650 grams including munitions.
