The Turkish State Meteorological Service (TSMS) has issued yellow-code warnings for 19 provinces as a combination of heavy rain, storms, and desert dust is expected to affect large parts of southern and eastern Türkiye on Sunday.
Severe thunderstorms are forecast for the southeastern Anatolia and eastern Mediterranean regions, while heavy rain mixed with snow and dense snowfall is expected around Bingol, Bitlis, Mus, the southern parts of Van, Hakkari, and Sirnak.
The 19 provinces under the yellow-code alert include Adana, Adiyaman, Batman, Bingol, Bitlis, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep, Hakkari, Hatay, Kahramanmaras, Kilis, Mardin, Mersin, Mus, Osmaniye, Siirt, Sirnak, Sanliurfa, and Van.
Winds are generally forecast to blow from the north at light to moderate speeds. However, gale-force winds are expected in southern southeastern Anatolia and Hatay, with speeds reaching 50 to 80 kilometers per hour (31 to 50 miles per hour) and up to 90 kph (56 mph) in parts of Hatay.
Desert dust transport is also expected across the eastern Mediterranean and southeastern Anatolia, potentially reducing visibility and degrading air quality in the region.
Frost and icing are forecast overnight and into the morning in inland and eastern areas. Fog and mist are expected across the Marmara region and other inland areas.
Authorities have also warned residents in high-altitude, snow-covered slopes in eastern Türkiye to stay alert to avalanche and snowmelt risks.
TSMS urged the public to take precautions against the hazards posed by heavy rain, storms, and desert dust.
