The number of Syrians returning from Türkiye has surged following the end of the school year, with daily crossings rising from around 1,400 to 2,500, according to official sources. More than 300,000 Syrians have returned over the past six months amid a new phase in Syria that began on December 8, 2024.
Although border traffic briefly slowed due to the Iran-Israel conflict, numbers rebounded after a ceasefire. Türkiye’s border infrastructure currently supports up to 3,000 daily exits, with officials noting that limited capacity prevents faster processing.
Many of those returning are seasonal agricultural workers, particularly from Antalya, Mersin, Burdur, and Isparta, who plan to go back to Syria once the harvest ends.
As of June 19, Türkiye hosts 2.677 million Syrians.
