Turkish defense manufacturer Makina ve Kimya Endustrisi (MKE) has been shortlisted for a major ammunition production facility project in Poland, as the company participated in MSPO 2025, one of Europe's largest defense industry exhibitions, held September 2-5 in Kielce.
The proposed "155mm Howitzer Ammunition Production Line" project in NATO member Poland has reached its final decision phase, with MKE making the shortlist of potential contractors, according to company officials at the exhibition.
MKE Deputy General Manager Tolga Celik confirmed the development in remarks to Defence24 platform at MSPO 2025, stating, "As MKE, we are ready to cooperate in establishing any production capacity that Poland needs. We specifically proposed establishing a factory in Poland for the production of 155mm ammunition for howitzers."
"The project's decision process has reached its final stages, and MKE has made the shortlist," he noted.
The potential Polish factory represents MKE's broader strategy to leverage its century-long experience and advanced technologies in the global defense industry.
The company, which exports to 105 countries and reported revenue exceeding $1.2 billion in 2024, aims to strengthen Türkiye's position as a global defense industry player through technology transfer and international production partnerships.
MKE is simultaneously pursuing significant domestic expansion projects valued at $818 million across 10 factories and three facilities, with 323 new investment projects progressing concurrently as of 2025.
The company's flagship investment is a 4.7 million square meter Energetic Materials Factory, described as "the first in the defense industry and third largest investment across all sectors" in Türkiye. Construction continues at full pace on this facility.
In a strategic conversion project, MKE is transforming an idle former sugar factory in Samsun's Carsamba district into a Nitroguanidine production facility.
"With these investments, Türkiye's dependence on foreign sources for explosives will be completely eliminated," the company emphasized in its statement.
MKE officials stress that these investments will not only increase production capacity but also strengthen Türkiye's global competitive position in the defense industry.
