Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Nuh Yilmaz will attend a meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation–Arab League (OIC-AL) Gaza Contact Group in Madrid on Sunday, according to Turkish Foreign Ministry sources.
The Gaza Contact Group meeting will bring together member states and European countries that have recognized the state of Palestine to discuss the implementation of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The meeting will be joined by the Gaza Contact Group, plus Spain, Ireland, Norway, and Slovenia, countries that have acknowledged the state of Palestine.
The meeting is planned to be held in an expanded format, with many countries supporting a two-state solution in Palestine invited to participate.
Spain will host the diplomatic gathering, continuing its role as a key venue for Palestinian state recognition discussions.
The group is particularly focused on advancing the implementation of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, especially in the European context.
In this regard, it aims to encourage the international recognition of the state of Palestine, revive the peace process, and ultimately achieve a two-state solution.
The diplomatic initiative represents a coordinated effort between Islamic, Arab, and European nations to address the Palestinian issue through multilateral dialogue.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan had attended the first such meeting, which was held in Madrid on Sept. 13, 2024.
Alongside the host country Spain, representatives from Norway, Ireland, and Slovenia, as well as OIC-AL Gaza Contact Group member states, including Türkiye, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Palestine, and Nigeria, and representatives from the EU, the Arab League, and the OIC also participated in that meeting.
The September meeting established the framework for ongoing diplomatic efforts to advance Palestinian statehood recognition.
The group also played a leading role in the Global Alliance initiative adopted during the 2024 U.N. General Assembly, which aims to implement the two-state solution.
This initiative demonstrates the Contact Group's broader engagement with international organizations to build consensus on Palestinian statehood.
The Sunday meeting in Madrid represents a continuation of these diplomatic efforts to maintain momentum for Palestinian recognition and conflict resolution.
Spain, Ireland, Norway, and Slovenia have taken significant diplomatic steps by recognizing the state of Palestine, positioning themselves as key European supporters of Palestinian statehood.
Their participation in the Gaza Contact Group meeting reflects growing European engagement in Middle Eastern peace efforts.
The expanded format of the meeting indicates increasing international support for addressing the Palestinian issue through diplomatic channels.
