Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held separate phone talks Friday with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and Pakistani mediators as diplomatic efforts tied to negotiations between Tehran and Washington gathered pace.

According to diplomatic sources from Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry, the conversations focused on the latest stage of ongoing negotiations. No additional details were immediately disclosed.

Pakistan, Qatar head to Tehran for mediation talks

Pakistani mediation efforts continued in Tehran, where a Qatari delegation met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi for talks aimed at ending the war.

Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, also arrived in the Iranian capital Friday as part of the diplomatic push. Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni welcomed Munir at the airport, while Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi joined the reception.

Munir previously traveled to Tehran last month, holding meetings with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and senior military commanders.

Türkiye, Qatar and Pakistan have stepped up efforts to help end the war since the conflict began, with Pakistan remaining the main mediator between the two sides after helping secure a ceasefire on April 8.

Rubio points to progress in Iran talks

Fidan also met U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio during the NATO foreign ministers meeting in Helsingborg, Sweden earlier this day. The meeting touched on preparations for NATO’s upcoming summit in Ankara on July 7-8, according to statements released by both Ankara and Washington.

The U.S. State Department added that the two sides also discussed defense production, higher military spending among allies, the Strait of Hormuz and wider regional stability issues.

Rubio later told reporters there had been "some slight progress" regarding negotiations involving Iran and the Strait of Hormuz, while stressing that Washington’s position on Iran’s nuclear program remained unchanged.

The U.S. secretary of state also pointed to Pakistan’s growing mediation role, describing Islamabad as Washington’s main interlocutor in contacts with Tehran and praising its diplomatic efforts to keep negotiations moving forward.
