Türkiye's intelligence chief met with senior Hamas officials Tuesday to discuss the implementation of a Gaza ceasefire agreement, with the Palestinian group reaffirming its commitment to the truce despite what it called Israeli violations.
Ibrahim Kalin, head of Türkiye's National Intelligence Organization, held talks in Istanbul with Khalil al-Hayya, a member of Hamas' political bureau and head of its negotiating team, along with an accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, the Hamas delegation thanked Türkiye for its role as mediator and guarantor in securing the Gaza ceasefire agreement, particularly crediting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his efforts in monitoring the truce process.
Hamas representatives told Turkish officials the group remains committed to the ceasefire deal despite violations by Israel throughout the process, according to a statement from the intelligence agency.
The two sides discussed steps needed to ensure the ceasefire functions properly and explored ways to overcome existing challenges. They also consulted on approaches for implementing subsequent phases of the ceasefire plan.
Türkiye briefed the Hamas delegation on humanitarian aid it has provided to Gaza and its efforts to end the humanitarian crisis there. The meeting also addressed ongoing coordination with international organizations to facilitate increased aid deliveries into the enclave.
Türkiye has positioned itself as a key intermediary in ceasefire negotiations, with Ankara maintaining communication channels with Hamas while also seeking to play a broader diplomatic role in efforts to resolve the conflict.
