A Turkish Navy helicopter made an emergency landing in the sea off the coast of Antalya due to a technical malfunction during a military exercise, the Ministry of National Defense announced Tuesday.
The SH-70 Seahawk helicopter was conducting flight operations as part of the Seawolf-II/2025 (DENIZKURDU-II 2025) Naval Exercise when it experienced technical difficulties and was forced to make an emergency water landing, according to a statement released by the ministry.
"A SH-70 helicopter belonging to our Naval Forces made an emergency landing in the sea due to a technical malfunction while conducting flight operations off the coast of Antalya within the scope of the DENIZKURDU-II/2025 Exercise," the ministry statement said.
"The health condition of our four personnel on duty in the helicopter is good, and they have been transferred to the hospital for precautionary checks," the statement added.
The Seahawk helicopters, developed by Sikorsky, began being delivered to the Turkish Naval Forces in the early 2000s. The helicopter is the maritime version of the UH-60/S-70 BlackHawk family. Equipped with specialized sonar and systems for ship-based operations, these helicopters are typically used for various purposes including submarine detection, search and rescue operations, and personnel and material transport.
The Seahawk helicopters hold the distinction of being the most expensive helicopters in the Turkish Armed Forces inventory, primarily due to their advanced maritime capabilities and specialized equipment. The Turkish Navy currently operates 24 of these helicopters.
