The speaker of Türkiye's parliament condemned Israeli attacks on Qatar as "barbarism" during a Wednesday phone call with his Qatari counterpart, escalating diplomatic tensions over Israel's expanding regional operations.

Numan Kurtulmus, speaker of Türkiye's Grand National Assembly, spoke with Hassan bin Abdulla Al Ghanim, chairman of Qatar's Shura Council, to express solidarity following what he described as Israeli strikes targeting Hamas negotiators in Doha.

"This attack is clear aggression and barbarism that violates international law, agreements and rules," Kurtulmus said, according to a statement from the Turkish parliament. He characterized the incident as a "very clear warning" that Israel "recognizes no borders" and will maintain "an aggressive stance against all countries."

Israel targets sixth regional country with Qatar strikes

The Turkish official said Israel had now targeted six countries in the region, making Qatar the latest to face Israeli military action. He argued the strikes demonstrated that "the U.S. protection umbrella has no meaning."

Kurtulmus offered condolences for those killed in the attack and pledged continued Turkish support for Qatar across all platforms. He emphasized that Türkiye stands "with all capabilities" beside its ally.

Regional alliance urged against Israeli expansion

The parliament speaker urged regional countries and the Islamic world to "realize all kinds of preparations and alliances without wasting any time" in response to Israeli actions.

Türkiye has been a vocal critic of Israel's military operations and has strengthened ties with Qatar in recent years. The two countries have deepened cooperation across economic, defense and diplomatic spheres.

Qatar's Palestinian support praised by Turkish leadership

Kurtulmus praised Qatar's support for the Palestinian cause, saying the Gulf nation "has gone down in history" for its backing and that this support "will never be forgotten."

The phone call reflects growing regional concern over Israel's expanding military footprint beyond Gaza and the West Bank, with Türkiye positioning itself as a leading voice against Israeli operations in neighboring countries.
