Turkish police arrested two suspects linked to the Daesh terrorist group in Istanbul who maintained communications with terror cell members operating in Germany, marking the latest development in international counter-terrorism cooperation.

The Istanbul Counterterrorism Department operation uncovered direct connections between the suspects and individuals detained in Germany during anti-Daesh operations, revealing the international scope of the terrorist network.

Germany terror cell connection exposed

Security teams conducting investigations into Daesh activities determined that two suspects had maintained contact and connections with individuals detained during Germany's anti-Daesh operations.

The suspects used internet-based messaging platforms commonly employed by Daesh members to communicate with the terrorist organization's Germany-based structure, highlighting the international coordination of terror networks.

During searches of the suspects' residences, authorities seized numerous digital materials and prohibited books subject to collection orders. The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue into the full extent of their international connections.

This arrest demonstrates the cross-border nature of Daesh operations and the importance of international intelligence cooperation in dismantling terrorist networks spanning multiple countries.

Major financial network dismantled in multi-province operation

On May 27, Turkish authorities conducted Istanbul-centered operations across four provinces targeting individuals who provided financial support to Daesh, resulting in 19 arrests.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued detention orders for 23 suspects as part of two separate investigations into Daesh financing networks.

Simultaneous operations were carried out in Istanbul, Kocaeli, Izmir, and Mardin provinces to apprehend suspects identified at their residences.

Significant cash and weapons seizures

During the multi-province operations, authorities seized substantial amounts of cash in multiple currencies and weapons:

  • $150,317
  • €16,800 ($19,047.73)
  • 1,913 Saudi riyals ($510)
  • £40 ($54.05)
  • 2,675 Dubai dirhams ($728.3)
  • 14 Azerbaijani manats ($8.24)
  • ₺158,070 ($4,045.3)
  • One unlicensed pistol and ammunition
  • Numerous digital materials

Security forces continue searching for five suspects who remain at large following the operations.

Social media fundraising network exposed

In a separate investigation, authorities arrested suspect B.B., who allegedly conducted financing activities for Daesh through social media platforms.

The suspect organized fundraising campaigns on Instagram for various Daesh-related causes, including support for:

  • Active Daesh members
  • Individuals detained at Syria's al-Hol Camp
  • Daesh members in prisons
  • Deceased Daesh members

Investigations revealed that donations intended for Daesh were channeled through B.B., who received transfers totaling ₺13.88 million into cryptocurrency accounts and bank accounts. Authorities identified B.B. as a primary fund collector who facilitated financial transfers to the terrorist organization through various digital payment methods.

The suspect was taken into custody by security forces as part of the ongoing investigation into Daesh financing networks.
