A Turkish police chief suspended over a municipal bribery investigation has evaded authorities after a detention order was issued against him, according to local reports on Saturday.

Ilker Arslan, the provincial police chief of Antalya, was removed from his position by the Interior Ministry as part of an ongoing investigation led by the Antalya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Türkiye's General Directorate of Security announced on social media.

The announcement stated that "Antalya Provincial Police Chief Ilker Arslan has been removed from duty by the Interior Ministry within the scope of the investigation being conducted by the Antalya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office."

Detention order issued as suspect becomes unreachable

Authorities subsequently issued a detention order for Arslan, but efforts to apprehend him have been unsuccessful. Officials reported that Arslan has turned off his phone and cannot be reached.

The development was disclosed during a television program on TGRT Haber, where journalist Gurkan Hacir provided details about the case. "Antalya Provincial Police Chief Ilker Arslan had been suspended in the Muhittin Bocek investigation.

A detention order has been issued against him. He has not been detained yet. He has turned off his phone and cannot be reached," Hacir said during the Taksim Square program.

The investigation is said to be connected to municipal corruption allegations, though specific details about the charges against Arslan have not been publicly disclosed by prosecutors.
