Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed 20 cooperation agreements in Ankara on Tuesday during the Kazakh leader’s official visit for high-level talks.
The agreements, spanning sectors from energy and transportation to artificial intelligence and media, were signed as part of the 5th Meeting of the Türkiye-Kazakhstan High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council. Both leaders signed the council's joint statement and its final decision.
Among the most significant agreements were a deal between Turkish Petroleum and NC Kazmunaygaz on energy cooperation, and a freight transportation agreement on the Middle Corridor railway route involving Türkiye’s national railway operator, Pacific Eurasia Logistics, and Kazakhstan’s state railways.
Several memoranda focused on technology and innovation, including a cooperation agreement on AI, innovation, and space activities between the countries’ respective technology ministries. The two sides also signed protocols on education, healthcare, mining, justice, and urban planning.
In remarks following the signing, Tokayev emphasized the strategic value of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route—also known as the Middle Corridor—which connects China and Europe via Central Asia and Türkiye. He underlined Kazakhstan’s readiness to expand infrastructure cooperation and support Turkish investment, with Kazakh investment in Türkiye already exceeding $2.5 billion.
Agreements signed on trade and customs aimed to further boost bilateral trade volume, with joint efforts underway in energy, agriculture, tourism, and construction.
Tokayev also congratulated Erdogan on the successful organization of IDEF 2025, the 17th International Defense Industry Fair held in Istanbul earlier in July. He praised Türkiye’s defense capabilities and highlighted prospects for joint work in IT and AI, stating: “We have given special importance to developing information technologies together.”
He noted Kazakhstan’s own progress in digitalization and expressed confidence that bilateral cooperation in AI would grow.
Tokayev highlighted Türkiye’s role as a mediator in the Russia-Ukraine war, lauding Erdogan’s leadership. He reiterated Kazakhstan’s support for the territorial integrity of both countries and called for diplomatic solutions to global conflicts.
“Türkiye is experiencing its golden age under President Erdogan’s leadership,” Tokayev said, adding that Kazakhstan values joint work within the Organization of Turkic States and broader international efforts to ensure global stability.
He extended a formal invitation for Erdogan to visit Kazakhstan, expressing hope that the deepening strategic partnership would continue to grow.
“We will combine our efforts to ensure global stability and security,” he said.
