Iraqi Turkmen Front (ITF) Chairman Muhammed Seman Aga said his party will continue to reject the current local administration in Kirkuk unless a rotating governorship system is introduced that ensures fair representation for all communities, including Turkmens.

Aga made the remarks following a meeting in Baghdad with Mohammad Fattlawi, Iraq’s prime ministerial envoy in charge of provincial affairs, who visited the ITF office to discuss recent developments in Kirkuk.

Aga told reporters that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani had assured him he would not accept any report on the situation in Kirkuk that does not reflect the ITF's position.

“The visiting delegation was clearly informed that we will continue to reject the local administration in Kirkuk unless a rotating governor system is established, with a written commitment to assign the post to a Turkmen candidate in 2026,” Aga said.

He added that the ITF would not recognize any administrative structure in Kirkuk and its surrounding districts unless Turkmens are granted fair and meaningful representation in local bureaucracy.

Aga also reiterated the party’s demand that security in Kirkuk must be maintained solely by state forces, not by any political or ethnic factions.

Kirkuk, a multiethnic city home to Kurds, Arabs, and Turkmens, has long been a flashpoint in Iraq's delicate ethnic balance. The city remains under federal control, though Kurdish political groups have pressed for greater influence.
