Türkiye has approved an investment protection agreement with Hong Kong and a United Nations agreement on marine biodiversity, with both laws entering into force after being published in the Official Gazette.
The approval covers the “Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Türkiye and the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China on the Reciprocal Promotion and Protection of Investments.”
The agreement was signed in Ankara on June 1, 2023, and in Hong Kong on Oct. 31, 2023.
With the law’s publication, the pact formally entered into force, providing a legal framework for the reciprocal promotion and protection of investments between the two sides.
Separately, Türkiye approved the “Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction.”
The agreement was signed in New York on Sept. 27, 2024, and was approved together with accompanying declarations.
The law entered into force upon publication, completing the domestic approval process.
Both approvals were published in the Official Gazette on Saturday, bringing the agreements into effect under Turkish law.
