Türkiye has become the first country to contribute to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization's humanitarian aid fund for Gaza, according to the country's permanent representative to the organization.

Ambassador Gulnur Aybet, Türkiye's UNESCO permanent representative, announced the contribution during a meeting on the Gaza aid fund, sharing the development on social media platform X.

"We must raise our voices more on all aid issues related to Gaza," Aybet said, emphasizing Türkiye's role as the inaugural contributor to the UNESCO fund.

International community increasingly calls Israeli actions genocide

During the meeting, Aybet highlighted the growing international consensus regarding Israel's actions in Gaza. She noted that an increasing number of voices in the international community are characterizing Israel's actions as "genocide," a position she said has been confirmed by a United Nations Commission of Inquiry report.

The Turkish diplomat reaffirmed her country's position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, describing a two-state solution as "the only viable option." Aybet expressed Türkiye's appreciation for the recent steps taken by multiple countries toward recognizing Palestinian statehood.

UNESCO fund aims to support Gaza's educational infrastructure

The UNESCO Gaza aid fund represents the organization's efforts to provide educational and cultural support to the Palestinian territory, which has faced severe infrastructure damage and humanitarian challenges. Türkiye's contribution marks the beginning of what UNESCO hopes will be broader international support for reconstruction and educational initiatives in Gaza.

The announcement comes as various international bodies continue to address the humanitarian situation in Gaza through multiple aid channels and diplomatic initiatives.
