Türkiye has barred a vessel operated by the Israeli shipping company ZIM from docking at Istanbul Port, forcing the ship to divert its route to Greece’s Piraeus Port, officials confirmed.

The move comes as part of a new policy that restricts access to all ships with ties to Israel, signaling escalating maritime measures by Türkiye.

New restrictions on Israeli-linked vessels

Under the new regulations, any vessel flying the Israeli flag or owned by Israeli companies is prohibited from entering Türkiye’s ports. Similarly, ships under the Turkish flag will no longer be allowed to call at Israeli ports.

The restrictions also extend to cargo. Goods destined for or originating from Israel cannot be loaded, unloaded, or transported through ports in Türkiye.

Written declarations required

Authorities in Türkiye have also introduced new compliance requirements. All ships docking at Turkish ports must now provide written confirmation that they have no connections with Israel. Shipowners are required to certify that their cargo is not being delivered to Israel for military or other purposes.
