Türkiye on Thursday strongly condemned a bomb attack at a cafe in central Damascus that killed at least five people and wounded 20 others, calling on Syrians to preserve their unity in the face of what it described as an attempt to destabilize the country.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry issued a statement condemning "the attack carried out today in the Hijaz area of Syria's capital, Damascus, which caused fatalities," extending condolences to the victims' families and the Syrian people, and wishing a speedy recovery to the wounded.
The blast was caused by an explosive device planted inside a cafe on Al-Nasr Street, near the Justice Palace in central Damascus, according to an Alikhbariah TV correspondent.
The Syrian Health Ministry confirmed the death toll of at least five and said 20 others were injured. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and investigations are ongoing.
In its statement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry framed the attack as part of a broader effort to roll back recent gains in Syria, expressing confidence that "the best response to such attempts, which aim to undermine the progress made toward establishing sustainable stability and security in Syria and to disrupt social peace, will once again be given by the Syrian people by preserving their unity and solidarity."
Türkiye has been one of the most active regional players in Syria's political transition following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's government in December 2024, backing efforts to establish a stable governing framework and maintaining close ties with the country's new leadership.
The ministry closed its statement with a pledge that "Türkiye will continue to stand in solidarity with Syria throughout this process," reinforcing Ankara's position as a key partner in Syria's post-conflict reconstruction and security efforts.
The Damascus bombing comes as Syria's transitional authorities work to consolidate control and restore order across a country still navigating the aftermath of more than a decade of civil war. The identity of those responsible for Thursday's attack remains unknown.
