Türkiye has decided not to join the new Canada-based Defense, Security and Resilience Bank (DSRB), the Ministry of National Defense said, according to Turkish broadcaster NTV.
Canada, Albania, Belgium, Greece, Latvia, Luxembourg, Romania, and Ukraine have committed to joining the Canada-based bank, but Türkiye will not be among them.
The bank is designed as a multilateral institution that will offer long-term financing to defense-sector companies, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
According to the report, the decision not to commit to joining the bank at this stage was made following an evaluation involving representatives from the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, and the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), after negotiations concluded in Montreal, Canada.
The bank, to be headquartered in Canada, is expected to begin operations as early as 2027.
