Turkish defense technology company Havelsan and Egypt's Arab Organization for Industrialization signed an agreement in Cairo for the joint production of vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), marking a significant milestone in bilateral defense cooperation between Türkiye and Egypt.
Turkish Ambassador to Egypt Salih Mutlu Sen announced the development on the social media platform X on Tuesday, calling it an important achievement for both nations.
"An agreement for the production of vertical takeoff and landing unmanned aerial vehicles (VTOL-UAV) was signed in Cairo between the Turkish company Havelsan and the Egyptian Organization for Industrialization (AOI)," Sen wrote.
"Congratulations on this achievement," the Turkish ambassador added.
The defense cooperation extends beyond aerial vehicles. Sen confirmed that production of unmanned ground vehicles has officially commenced through a separate partnership.
"The production process for unmanned ground vehicles between Havelsan and the Egyptian Kadir factory has also begun," he noted.
Havelsan General Manager Mehmet Akif Nacar, in his speech at the signing ceremony, said: "We are very pleased to be working with a strong partner like AOI. This partnership will bring autonomous UAV technologies to the region, increase local production capacity, and enable us to enter the African market strongly."
"As a brand and a strong player that offers reliable, effective, and innovative solutions on a global scale, we will continue to develop high technologies and add value to regional markets," he added.
AOI President Major General Mokhtar Abdellatif also stated that Havelsan's experience in the field of technology, combined with AOI's production capabilities, will support Egypt's defense and technology vision.
"This cooperation is not only about production, but also a major step toward technological independence and sustainable export," Abdullatif said.
