Türkiye and Hungary signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and a 2025–2028 implementation protocol on higher education cooperation on Monday, adding a new academic dimension to the long-standing relationship between the two countries.
The signing ceremony took place at Dolmabahce Palace in Istanbul during Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s visit to Türkiye, President of the Council of Higher Education (CoHE) Erol Ozvar said in a statement.
According to CoHE, the agreements mark a “strategic step” that strengthens academic ties between Türkiye and Hungary.
The protocol aims to expand student and academic staff mobility, support joint academic work, and reinforce partnerships between universities in both countries.
The initiative seeks to deepen cooperation across multiple areas, including joint degree programs, student exchanges, academic staff exchanges, internship opportunities, and the recognition of diplomas.
Under the MoU, Türkiye and Hungary will promote the establishment and implementation of joint undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degree programs.
The two countries will also organize reciprocal exchange programs for students and academic staff.
Short-term research opportunities, joint workshops, conferences, and seminars are included in the protocol as mechanisms to accelerate knowledge sharing between universities.
Students will be offered the chance to complete internships in their respective fields of study in the partner country.
Academic staff will also be able to participate in collaborative research programs designed to enhance scientific cooperation.
In line with national regulations, both countries will provide scholarship opportunities to students participating in these exchanges, contributing to broader access and improved academic mobility.
