Ahead of the Seventh Meeting of the Türkiye–Hungary High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC), the First Meeting of the Türkiye–Hungary Joint Consultation Mechanism will take place Monday, Dec. 8, in Istanbul.
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, National Defense Minister Yasar Guler, and National Intelligence Organization (MIT) Director Ibrahim Kalin will attend the inaugural session.
According to Foreign Ministry sources, Fidan is expected to state during the meeting and in bilateral talks that efforts continue to strengthen and diversify comprehensive cooperation across all sectors, based on the enhanced strategic partnership between the two countries.
Fidan will emphasize that the Joint Consultation Mechanism represents a key institutional step that reinforces the foundations of bilateral relations and elevates cooperation to a higher level.
Fidan will highlight the importance of accelerating joint efforts to boost economic ties and increase mutual investments. He will also reaffirm the shared commitment to advancing defense industry cooperation through new joint projects.
He is expected to underline Hungary’s importance as a partner in security cooperation and stress that counterterrorism efforts between the two countries will continue based on mutual interests.
Fidan will exchange views on a wide range of regional and global developments, including the Russia–Ukraine war, Gaza, Syria, the Balkans, the South Caucasus, and Africa. He will also note that Hungary’s constructive stance and support for advancing Türkiye–European Union relations are welcomed.
On the margins of the meeting, Fidan will hold talks with Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.
The Türkiye–Hungary Joint Consultation Mechanism was established with the participation of foreign and defense ministers, intelligence chiefs, and officials responsible for defense industry coordination. The mechanism aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation in military, security, defense, and counterterrorism fields.
The consultation mechanism is scheduled to convene at least once a year, alternating between Türkiye and Hungary.
Meanwhile, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and a high-level delegation will visit Türkiye on Monday, Communications Director Burhanettin Duran said Sunday on X.
Orban will attend the seventh meeting of the Türkiye–Hungary High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, hosted at the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
During the visit, the two sides will review all aspects of the enhanced strategic partnership and exchange views on current regional and global developments, Duran said.
A number of bilateral agreements are expected to be signed to strengthen the contractual framework of relations, he added.
